DO NOT GET EXPLORER HEADS, unless you want to spend a lot of money on headers, they are a GT40P head and have a special spark plug location that will not allow the use of standard headers, or manifolds. and the ones that do fit are $$$$$

I've used e7's on an 86 bottom end no problem with stock 86 cam. Just FYI. You can get 86 heads off any non ho motor 87^ such as thunderbirds, crown vic, cougars,some lincolns I believe.

well for one, i specifficly stated the GT40P head, and ADDER, those heads were way better than the stock 89 smog heads by 10 fold. if you want to complain about my motors, why dont you come out here this spring and line up some thing with me. ill use my old 1980 L model mustang, and tear you a new one with it.
And if i am an idiot for using a better head that what i had, and got them for free, then ill be an idiot any day. even if i had to pay more for headers. and another thing, they were going on a motor in a pickup truck, not a race car.

You don't need a special header for gt40p's. I have bbk 1 5/8 longtubes. Clearance is a little tight on a couple of plugs but nothing a 90* boot can't fix. Also ford headers are really that expensive, its $250 for a stainless header, thats a pretty good price.

i tried headman, and hooker long tubes in the truck, and it may have just been the design of the header for that application, but there were two plugs on each side that were almost touching the tubes with out the plug wires on them.

Yo 86gt after IREAD WHAT YOU DID TO WELL SHOULD WE SAY AMATURE porting experience ...forget about the used head option....hell forget about your 220,000 plus mile motor....I think it's time for a new motor cause after your port job you prolly got little chinnese throwin' stars swimming in your engine now!!!! I cant see any reason i wouldnt want to race a mouth piece like you just to shut you up for a few mins. youd probably call me a cheater or complain that your car was busted when you loose, but i can deal with that.
