No, in fact all vehicles hitting 9's have very big blocks in them or are turbocharged etc(NOT N/A), so its not a Ford thing.

all you need (as far as engine) is a lot of cubes or a lot of rpm's. and of course you'll need a good certified chassis, ^^^ a license.......the list will go on.

EDIT: o yea, and not all vehicles runnin 9's (n/a) have very big motors. there's a buddy of ours that has a '69 mustang with a 427. the thing runs 8's no lie. now i dont kno bout you but a 427 isn't really a big motor. did you think about alternative fuels either? how bout alcohol?

i am building a 1983 coupe into a quarter mile queen. I will be using a sportsman 351 block, and the car will be N/A. I figure the motor, and drive train will cost me right around $15,000.oo. Then ad the cost of materials for the chassi, suspension, and body mods that it will take. The car will have a fiberglass nose, fiberglass doors, fiberglass trunk, lexan windows, aluminum will be replacing steel any where it can safely. I will more than likely have $20,000.oo into this car, and that is with out paying labor, and not including the purchase price of the car. It can be done N/A, but like every one has said, get out your wallet. I will be assembleing the motor, rear axle, chassi, and fabricating the roll cage my self, saving me a TON of money.

From the way it sounds, you may be on a budget. If you are, then dont shoot for the 9's. chasing a number will **** you off, and make you frustrated. its good to have goals, but dont let them consume you. I have a good feeling that my car will some day be in the 9 second world. I am going to build it the way i have planned, and if it gets into the 9's then ok, and if not, so be it. I have seen guys **** away thousands of dollars chasing the all elusive pre set E/T, or RWHP number they dreamed up, and then get pissed off and sell the whole thing for cheap. i would say build what you want, and how you want it, and be happy with what it does, and then work on it from there.

Man where the heck did this come from?Wrong, very wrong...My last ride went 9.30's N/A with a SBC ....glide with a brake...
Basically like others said lots of money...VERY good parts....and a very LIGHT CAR!...the lighter the better...My 68 velle went 9.60's
with another sbcALL motor....and weighted in @ 2680 with me in the car...... http://s76.photobucket.com/albums/j4...t=10112005.flv
Heavy cars gonna take a BIG motor ...or a small motor with lots of nitrous(or a turbo or charger)...Kinda what I've got now....and continue to work on....all motor....runsmid 11'sand a plate with 150 shot...9.90's...and a boat load of suspension....I haven't got my 9.90 in this car yet....but will...and I drive to the track and home.....

HYPEracings got a good point..unless your car runs 11 's now....dont shoot for a 9 second car right off...Believe me...most people dont realize how fast an 11 second car is..until they experiance it..once your there(and get bored),shoot for a 10 second ride and so on...it is addictive...after 2 Rear engine dragsters...4, 9 second cars,311 sec cars and a few 10 second cars...I've been as fast as my E.T(SG,SC,SS) license will allow.....and still want more...now a street legal pump gas 9 second car...
