Default Fan. Electric or Stock?

I was looking to replace a broken Fan Shroud when a buddy of mine suggested ditching the shroud and stock fan for an electric fan with shroud. Way say you fellas? Are there advantages to an electric fan? Or just change the shroud and keep the stock fan?

You put an electric fan on it, you'll need to upgrade the alt.

I would like to get the upgrade myself, but you don't have to... I have been driving with my electric fan(18 amp draw)andunderdrive pullies (including alt pulley)for a year and a half now. I've only needed a jump like less than 5 times.

The stock fan will flow more cfm then most aftermarket electric fans.

TRUE BUT THE DRAG IT CREATES FAR EXCEEDS THAT OF AN ELEC FAN.. I used to go to the strip and remove my fan clutch there and to see if it made a difference I'd darn near gain 1/10 to almost 2/10 in the quarter mile and just a little over 1 mile an hour more.......I'd run with it on and then without and compare the results and was astonished at the difference it made... eventually that song and dance got old and I bought an elec fan

I couldn't use an electric fan with the stock radiator because it ran hot. I had to get a good aluminum radiator and I also use the stock alternator with under drive pulleys and have no problems.

i have an electric fan out of a toraus 3.8 late 80's early 90's its a two speed fan pulls upwards of 5000cfm on high but i never use high. high also draws 40 amps and thats where you would need to upgrade your alt. i have been running mine with the stock 65amp alt and the fan on low for over a year with no problem. the fan also made a huge huge difference in the way the car reved up and drove all together. i recommend it and if you have the time and money do the 3g upgrade its worth it im gunna be doing it soon

I agree with HACKGT350 I had a huge difference in throttle response. My engine isa lot snappier. The first time I ran it with the electric fan I had a hard time keeping it out of the rev limiter between gears because it reved so quick. On one pass I forgot to turn the fan off and lost a tenth and one mile per hour becaue of the pull on the alternator I expect.
