Link bar lifters?????
Hello guys, got a quick question for ya!...ok so I built this 306 with a mild comp cam...flat top JE pistons....1.6 platinum rockers and am running comp cams link bar lifters.....so I fire the thing up and it puts out this god awful sound...like every lifters/rocker is loose....I know I set the valves correct (per comps site) but it still makes the noise...I was told these link bar set ups areonly used when upgradinga non roller block to roller?? Guys at comp disagreed and said they would work on true roller motors....anyways with all this mixed info...people keeptellingme to just put these stock lifters back in it....your thoughts?? any help would be greatly appreciated....

RE: Link bar lifters?????
The guys at Comp Cams are correct + those are better lifters than the stock styles and can be used in a roller block..... did you check/installed the correct pushrod length? ...... did you check for any clearance problems between the rockers and the valve retainers?....

RE: Link bar lifters?????
yeah i would say either
A) you really DIDNT set them right
2) they havent pumped up yet
did you prime the oil system before starting until you saw oil coming out on each rocker?

67 mustang 302 that is correct....
I did prime the system before firing alsosatthe lifters in oil overnight before install however I primed the system for about 3 minutes didnt watch for oil to come up thru the lifters just made sure there was oil pressure? But would you think that maybe after firing it they would have pumped up?? I'm not sure
About setting thevalves you know whats funny I was thinking maybe I slipped there....but I redid them2 times....LOL.....1st at 1/2 turn 2nd at 3/4 turn.....
Pushrod length I used the ones that came with the heads they are 6.400 length I think stock is 6.27 or something....
any ideas...? bear with me guys I'm new to mustang power....no where near a veteran to pushrod or v8 power for that matter...thanks again

RE: Link bar lifters?????
Are you running roller rockers? And were you before? Is it possible your valve covers may be interfering with the rockers? A lot of roller rockers are too big to fit under standard valve covers. And what type of rockers do you have? Pedestal or stud? And how did you adjust them?

RE: Link bar lifters?????
Hi, yup I'm running 1.6 roller rockers....there is no interference with valve covers...I checked and also removed that windage tray thing under the fill hole....they are stud mount rockers....I adjusted them they way they said on Comp Cams site....like per cyclinder wait for exhaust valve to move then do that cyclinders intake....then wait for intake to full open and when its almost closed do that same cylinders exh. valve.....then did the zero lash thing and first time I did 1/2 turn second time I did 3/4 turn.....but its weird because its sounds like every lifter/cylinder/rocker is making noise...its not just a "few" making noise.....sux....thanks again!

RE: Link bar lifters?????
Hi yup valves arent touching pistons...I think if they were all would be lost...LOL.....as I recall thats pretty hard to do with 5.0's unless you really f up your timing?? I checked and double triple checked the adjustments.....sux...I'm lost.... []
