just installed 4.30's and there is a whine
so i have a question, i had a local performance shop build my rear end for me, i installed the rear, and finally after a month and a half i got to test drive it for the first time tonight (college keeps me away from my baby), now they told me to give it 50 miles to break in, and i am doing so (very hard to do so cause there are so many ricer wantabe's around here) now there is a whine to the gears, not all the time but everyonce in awhile, is this normal????? im taking dad's cobra in for a clutch change tomorrow at the same place, and am going to have the guy look at it but just wondering your opinions thanks guys, o and after experiancing the change in the gearing 4.30's are amazing

I'd have them check the spec's on the pinion depth and back lash if the backlash was set towards the high end of the spec which is around .012 thousandths then after it wears in a little it'll be even further out and make noise....what i try and due is set it towards the low end = tighter .007 then when it breaks in it'll hit the majic number of right around .009 which has worked well for me

I didn't see anybody else ask what "brand" gears did you put in? If they are anything other than Ford Racing you're out of luck. I had to pay the price with trying to get away with Richmond Gears and the whine was unbearable. I swapped to Ford Racing (shop gave me them for free) and no whine. Gave me back the Richmonds called the company and they refunded my money.
