I can't help with the scanning issue, but try cleaning the MAF senor(the wire exposed to the intake air), and cleaning out the thottle body/IAC. Also make sure that all vacuum lines are secure.
Side note: Probably would not hurt to change the fuel filter if it hasn't been done in a while and run injector cleaner and/or seafaom it (through the vacuum tree on the back of the manifold.)

Yes. I would look for a used TPS just to verify that it will fix it.
But the no scan situation makes me think it is more like a bad gound connection to the computer or a bad computer. The TPS is 45 Bucks from schucks. I would seriously look at the grounds on you electrical system first. Especially between the motor and chassis. But also in the dash. A bad TPS will not make it to where you can not scan the computer. You might also try resetting the computer. I am not sure how to on this but I have fixed several problems by resetting the computer. Usually it is reset by unhooking the battery and leaving it unhooked for a short time. I usually leave it unhooked for about 30 minutes.

well when i bought the car, it was recked in the front, really bad, but i cut the front end off and welded a new one on. so its possible wen they wrecked it, it might have broke a wire. also it blew both air bags, could that be a reason y its not reading?

POSSIBLE bad grounds but more than likely if you took it to a place like autozone or any other place more often than not they don't have the ability or know how to operate their scan tool in any other mode then obd II...... you have to run what they call a koeo/koer test to pull/scan for codes on yours..and a the simple paper clip trick can do that and count the blinks on the check engine light while performing the test

the cut and paste function isn't working to well on my computer so go to the search link up above and type in DIY Koer/koeo tests and look for a link / post from JOEL 5.0 it'll tell you all you need to know
