Default 87 mustang gt

I have an 87 gt that i have been trying to get running, well i have it running now but i have a few problems, the car takes awhile to start when cold and when its started and you give it gas it backfires through the intake, and also will blow black smoke out the tailpipes, the other problem is when she was run for awhile and i turn it off it cranks really slow not enought to really do much until she cools off again let me know with some suggestions i have a new holley 190 fuel pump with a adjustable fuel pressure regulator also by holley and i am running the car at 42psi when the car is running, i also noticed that when i checked the timing i unplugged the plug by the distributor and the timing didn't change and its the same when its plugged in, but when you rev it the timing mark does move timing is set at 10 degrees

Sounds like too much fuel and incorrect timing

Is this a new motor or is this something that started all of the sudden?

Check your firing order. Bump the timing up to about 14. Check the connection to all of your sensors. Especially the O2 sensors.

If you pull the spout connector,"the little plug by the distributer", and the timing doesn't change then thats your problem. all that plug does is complete the circuit thru that wire to the distributor. Try to jump out the contacts in the wire with a paper clip and see if your timing jumps up. If so than you can replace the spout connector or put a toggle switch in its place. Without that wire the timing will not advance, If this does not help then you may have a problem in the distributer or a bad connection in that wire elsewhere.

i was working on the car today and fixed the slow crank when hot it ended up being the battery cables ended up making my own out of 2gauge wire, car is running better but still have the black smoke coming out the tailpipe and i also noticed that she bogs when driving it and opening the throttle 1/2 way or more and then she really blows black when the rpms are above 2500rpms what could this be

dude I'm telling ya if the spout connector doesn't complete the circuit it will run like that. the timing will not advance as it's suppose to. CHECK THAT CIRCUIT. if you run your car without correcting this it can really damage your engine. It's like running it with the timing set way to low. @ idle you should see the timing jump up 2 to 4 degrees with the spout connector in. Also it will not be steady and you'll see it moving around with the spout connector in.

without the spout connector in you'll still see it advance moderately but it will also pop and backfire.

well i checked the spout with a paperclip and that didn't solve it, when i first got the car i got it running and it went like a bat out hell and then it wouldn't adjust the timing on its on you set the timing with the spout removed and then put it back in and the timing stayed where you had set it even if you gave it gas(i read that ir should advance about 20 degrees and it doesn't) what might be the problem i changed the tfi module and it still doesnt advance could it be the computer???? and does anyone have any better pics for a vaccuum diagram cause all i have is from alldata and it is not very clear(need it for 87 gt)
