i just bought some ported stockers yesterday for about 500, they have a 5 angle valve job new stainless valves .600 lift springs and lots of bowl and runner porting done, suposed to work better than gt40 p's and i can still use my bbk headers and my 1.7 rockers, and i have heard of na guys with stock heads that are ported in the 12's. so i think its worth it.

definetley pick up some stockers and port them rather than taking a chance on screwing something up. Im not trying to post whor, just trying to emphasize this. IF you are going to spend hundreds of dollars on porting stockers, just buy some good used aftermarket heads. I just bought some aluminum Edelbrock Performers with 1.6 stud mount roller rockers for $650, not too bad in my opinion, and these heads have been shown to bolt on 78 hp with a mild comp cam. Just my 2 cents, I understand what its like to be on a budget though, hell if you can get a 40hp gain on some well ported stockers that would be great as long as it didnt cost you a fortune.

a valve job, is where they put angles on the valve seat and match the valve to the angles so when its starts to open it begins to flow sooner, allows the flow of air and fuel into cylinder faster. if you want a valve job done i recomend a shop do it that has the right machines and know how. a valve job usually is more important than porting in alot of cases, the faster the a/f swirl in the more power youll make.
