Default head question

when is it you have to check valve clearance ? i had an 89 5.0.. blew the head gasket sent the heads to be rebuilt.. bolted them back in and put back the stock rockers and torqued them to specs and never had another problem .. Now i have a 93 gt and just wondering is it when i change the heads or rockers ??

well...theroreticaly when you put heads on with bigger valves like say 2.02 valves you should either replace the pistons with proper sized valve reliefs or notch the pistons but I believe the largest valve stock pistons will handle without piston mods are 1.90 /1.94 intakes or a twisted wedge head will accept 2.02 valves and ptv should also be checked when changing to a more performance oriented cam with greater valve lift expecially if it's an off the shelf cam and not custom designed for your application.

dude im sorry maybe im asking the wrong question .. im talking about the clearance between the springs and the rockers ??.. when you change heads you just torque all the head bolts and the rocker bolts and thats it or do you have to check that clearance or when do you have to check that clearance ?

ahhhh now I understand what your asking.....if it's a stock rebuild no just torque everything back the way it was ....however if your adding performance parts like roller rockers then you need to check clearences and set up the valvetrain geometry properly
