I have an 81 5.0 that i recently built, it has rain perfect since i have been done and then a couple of days ago i went to go through the gears and as i went into second i hit 3000 rpm and the motor acted like it died but then as the rpm dropped it was fine. I think it is the fuel filter but i havent tried it yet. But another thing that i wonder about is that it doesnt start barely at all that is were i dont think it is just the filter. Any answers to this problem??

If the filter is clogged it would have a hard time starting OR it could very well be your fuel pump not being able to keep its prime.
