RE: which tranny?
for a milder build I'd get the tko 500 but if you plan to race it hard and have alot of power go for the tko 600 ...you can get these in varying forms with different overdrive ratios and or set up for pure race which those tko's aren't reccommended for street use

well if you have a 5.0 stock then it has the t-5 and if you upgrade to the 56 then its SO much more money and work, changing more than just a tranny swap, lines and everything, but def the 500-600 depending on harshness of the drving.

The Cobra-spec T-56s I've seen in most places are rated to about 440 lb/ft of torque I believe. I will echo some of the other people here and say it depends on your use. I'm not in the market for a transmission right now but if I was I'd probably go T-56 as my car sees mostly street use with the occasional trip to the track. If you are street-driven andlike road courses the 0.80 5th gear in the T-56 will let you hit ~170mph (depending on yourfinal driveratio) plus you will have the 0.62 6th gear for cruising on the highway.
The TKO-500 is also nice because it has a 500 lb/ft torque rating and its ratios are very close to the T-5's if you like those.

Tremecs are great for all out abuse while the T56 is a better choice for high powered street cars .
Tremecs are rated at 500 and 600 ft lbs of torque depending on the model "500" or "600" while the T56 is only rated at about 440 but those numbers are a little too low . I'd say a Tremec 500 could take 600 pretty easy , a 600 could take 700 pretty easy and the T56 could handle 550 or more . These numbers depend on other factors like weight of the vehicle , type of tire , driving styles and type of engine in front of it .
