I've been reading through here about performance chips, and the general consensus is that they aren't worth it. However, if my goal isn't to just add power but to change the AODE shift points, wouldn't it still be worth it?

dont really need to change the shift points unless you swapped your rear gears..

otherwise a valve body swap and shift kit should give you what you are looking for.

I have a set of 3.73s on order that I'm putting in next weekend. Along with a CAI and pulleys. I guess I'll see how it shifts with the new gears, and if required then I'll put the chip in. Later on I plan on adding headers, exhaust, cam, heads and intake. Then I think the SCT with a custom tune will be a good idea.

I added 3.73's to my AODE equipped mustang and don't have any problems with the way it shifts, I wouldn't waste the money on the chip.

My mom has a 97 GT and she had a SCT tuner and had our local dyno tune it up, the car picked up almost a half a second in the 1/4 and it shifts like crazy, all she has is 3.73 gears, cold air intake, underdrive pulleys and some mofaster mufflers. Plus my race car is fuel injected and it used to go 13.4 at 100, then I had that same shop burn me a chip and tune my car then with a 5 speed it went 12.50's, So my opinion on chips, I think its worth it.
