rough idle/jerking foward

rough idle/jerking foward
i just had a PA super streeter AOD and a 2500 stall installed, i was told that my car had a cam and heads in it, and i thought that the stock stall converter was causing the jerking foward from not having enough slip from the cam, how can i tell if my car really has a cam? is it suppose to always sound lopey when you come to a stop? cause it mostly just sounds like a cam when i start it up cold, and sometimes when i come to a stop, and if it sounds lopey when i come to a stop it jerks and shakes the **** out of my car.
and also whats the break in period i should give my new tranny and stall?

Confirm your the ground wire on back of the driver head is there and ok, thats the 02's ground and will not throw a CEL.
