Hey. I just bought a 1994 Mustang GT convertible and got a real good deal on it. But as I try to go into second gear, it grinds as i let out on the clutch. Is this a synchronizer gone out?

make sure your actually getting all the way INTO the gear before you let the clutch out.

but yea, the tranny is probably dead

yeah its all the way in to the gear but it grinds once you let out of the clutch. But the gear is not gone because if you try hard enough it will go into 2nd

My second gear is strange as well. Like you said, sometimes its like it does not fully go into second, but if I slam it into second it goes in. No other gears have issues. I think mine has been power shifted one to many times by the previous owner.

2nd usually goes first, all that force pulling down

Well it may be just on it's way to going out. But on my way home from school today i figured out if i ease on it and only go up to 2,000 rpms in first it will shift into second perfect just about everytime. I would take it somwhere to get it fixed but the plac we have in town would charge an arm and a leg. I may just drop it out myself sometime then see what can be done.
