Default locating dowels?

are the locating dowels supposed to be in the head or the block?

well, the reason i ask is the gt40's i just picked up have the dowels in the heads. ill just have the machine shop remove them then. hopefully when i remove my e7s, they will stay in the block. thanks aod

Dang... just use a small punch and a small hammer they pop right out......shoot when I took my heads off last night one or two was stuck in the head.......but it came right out....there is a built in ridge in the heads so they can only go so far up so it really doesn't matter either way

Mine were in my head, pulled em right out put em in my block, werent broke at all.
