RE: someone has to know the answer!
thanks for all the advice. i will try both ways, with the two wires off and the two wires on and i direct wire to the battery or solenoid. the thing is the solenoid doesnt have any room on the bolts. any ideas? do they sale ones with longer bolts?

Your car discharges at idle but charges fine while driving which is above idle speed.
The way I see it, you don't have a charging problem. The voltage is a bit low at idle. Seriously, So What!
I truely daily drive my Mustang. Underdrives and also discharging at idle. A/C and heat combined with high speed fan am I'm discharging even above idle. I've been stuck in traffic jams with the AC and elec fan on and winter sometimes requires defrost which engages AC, rear window defrost, heater on high and lights on. My battery has never went dead.
Just be smart about your situation and don't let it discharge for a long time. Like during the above condition, I'll make that last couple minutes of my trip without a big electrical demand.
