Would there be any bad reprocussions from getting an "oversized" MAF (83mm or so) but having a TB that fits your car's needs (70mm). Because it seems like the "excess" air comming through the MAF wouldn't be let through to mess with the engine, because the TB would only let so much in.

Is my thinking correct or completely off?

There is really no reason to go with that big of a MAF if you only have a 70MM tb... The 70MM tB is only going to flow how much a 70MM MAF can, maybe a few more.. If you have a 70MM TB, get a 73MM MAF, or 76 at most, 83 is way too big and not worth it.

No it will not hamper performance because like I said the 70mm TB is only going to flow what it can. As long as the MAF can at least keep up with the TB then you will not lose performance if you have an oversized MAF, just not worth the extra money IMO...

I agree, think of it like a straw, you will only suck as much air through it as the smallest diameter in the design. If you have a 70MM TB it's a waste to get anything larger than a 73 or 76MM MAF... Or, as my wife just explained it walking by and reading over my shoulder.."Why would you buy a 32D bra if you only have a 32C chest?[8D] "

to leave room for upgrading the TB down the road and not need to upgrade the MAF
