Why Won't it Run?
Hey guys, I'm kind of sad right now. I thought I had my car figured out and then it went and surprised me. I tried to start it and it didn't fire. In fact with a new carb on it I sprayed fuel into the air at only 5psi. The carb is rated for between 4-6.5 psi use. I turned it down to four and it didn't shoot into the air but it didn't fire up either. It is at TDC with a new carb, fuel tank, pump, straps, fuel relay, and a couple other goodies including new plugs and wires. The firing order is correct. Could anyone please give me some guidance I'm really upset about this. Thanks in advance.

RE: Why Won't it Run?
Have you physicallychecked for spark, and not just assuming that there is?

if the fuel shoots out of the carb, you have your timing chain off a tooth or 2, i had it happen on an older winter beater i had back in the day

RE: Why Won't it Run?
How would I physically check for spark, and how could I tell for sure if I was off a tooth or two?

RE: Why Won't it Run?
You can buy spark checker's. The cheaper way to do it is to pull a plug wire, stick a screwdriver in there and make contact with the connector that goes over the plug and lay the screwdriver against something metal, have someone turn it over and you will see spark if you have it.

RE: Why Won't it Run?
you can also mimick the same thing with an old spark plug and touch it to groung and look for a strong spark jumping the gap:D

Okay now do I test all the cylinders or just number one? Sorry I've never done this before.

I would test them all to make sure that they are all getting spark... If it has spark, and fuel, then your timing is probably off. No biggie, just takes some test and checking to get it perfect.
