I bought a 90 gt convertible about 6 months ago that needed a tranny .. i put a new tranny in it and when i got it all back together i noticed a viberation around 60+ , Well i have discovered that the rear axles have play, the move in and out definatly more than they should, i am knowledgable about car but not about this rear end, i took it apart, replaced the axle bearings and seals, but with little change, Any help would be great...

The axles float, they are suposed to move somewhat. They are held in with c-clips. As long as they don't pull out all the way, you are good.

they definately move more than they should, when its on jack satnds it prolly has a 1/8"- 1/4" of slop

It is normal, maybe a little extra but normal. Like I said, unless you can pull them out completly, I wouldn't worry.

Did you replace you bearings and seals yourself? I am guessing not, otherwise you would understand what is going on.

EDIT: Okay, I see you did it yourself in your first post. Remeber when you took your center pin out of the diff, then you had to push your axles in and remove the clips.....the clips keep the axles fromfalling out, the pin keeps them from pushing in. Some slop in normal. Ulsee you saw some abnormal wear to thepin or the c-clips.....don't worry

I replaced them myself yesterday, i know how it all works sence i tore it all apart, but it just seems pretty excesive. is it possible that where the c-clip rides inside the housing actually wore it down inside there a little?

Unless the spider gear is really worn for some odd reason, but the axle is splined to it so it shouldn't wear where the clip is.

my axles do the same thing

i also have a pinion seal leak which isnt helping anything

when i put weld rims on my car you can notice them wobble behind the car

I guess maybe you could have lost a few clutches maybe and that allows your spidergears to move more. Did you mess with your traction lock clutches?

That isn't normal....you shouldn't see wobble. I would bet it is a bent rim

i didnt really mess with any of it, i really didnt know what i was looking for .. I dotn have much experience working on rearends
