C/C Plates

C/C Plates
So i just put on a set of Steeda C/C plates today. I was wondering, the directions call to re-use the stock dustboot and the giant mushroom shaped washer that holds it down. Aside from being a real pain the dick to get on, if i wanted to, are they necessary? I looked an a bunch of magazines at cars with c/c plates and all the cars in such magazines didnt have these on there. Well except one which had the original parts chromed out...
Also, are these plates really as easy to install as they seem? It almost makes me worry lol. Its gettin aligned tommorrow.

RE: C/C Plates
They are pretty easy to install, I thought the hardest part was getting the top of the strut through the hole. You should definitely use teh dust boot or your struts could fail extremely quickly.

Well what do u mean fail quickly? I have some napa p.o.s. struts on there now, there is indeed a rubber dust boot on the top of the strut.... but the boot im talking about is on the top of the strut tower, it looks like a bump stop almost. The only part exposed because of it not being there is the bushings on teh C/C plates(i think).

I just read that these plates(caster plates in general)may eventually loosen up a bit and I would need to retighten them periodically.
Anyone have any more insight into this? Should i make sure the bolts are torqued every month or so? It doesnt get much highway driving, but i beat the **** out of it on both windy and straight roads.

The steeda ones i put on dont reuse any stock parts except for the strut nut.Theytoo come with theunder plate.I now know that the dust boot and retaining washer I asked about do not get reused. But im still wondering about the loosening.
Thanks again for the responses guys.
Oh.... There was another bag of hardware that came with my plates,it was 4 split washers and 4 nuts. WTF are they for? must be for a diff application? maybe the pre-90's?I remember reading somthin in there that said 79-89 was diff than 90-93.

I had the Steeda C/C plates for 4 yrs before I switched to the MM C/C plates and not once did I ever need to retighten the bolts on the Steeda plates in those 4 yrs.
I was just on the Steeda site double checking my old instruction sheet to there new instruction for installation and no where in the new Steeda’s instruction did I see what you said, so might I ask where you read this…
