Default The Time Has Come; GT40 heads/intake

My dad was finally able to find an Explorer with the 5.0 that was headed to the scrap yard for having a rough body. Whatever I pull off the Explorer is free. What all do I need to grab off of it? It's a 98 Explorer and my car is a 95 GT. Do I just needthe heads, valve covers, upper/lower intake, and injectors?

I assume headgaskets, intake manifold gaskets, new thermostat/water pump while I'm at it(fix the coolant leak), header gaskets, spark plugs, and paint to make it nicer. Anything else?

I don't really want to do a cam, probably won't ever do a cam. Just want it a little peppier.

Those are gt40P heads on that explorer. You will need to get different headers....Mac makes a nice pair of headers specifically for the P heads, i got mine for about 130 bones shiped on ebay, brandnew.
You can also reuse your valve covers...Or just get new ones. You may need to take out the stock baffle if you reuse yours if you get 1.7rr too. You wont need the injectors from the explorer either, i believe they are the same size as yours.....but i'd grab them just for extras, old injectors get pretty crispy and break pretty easily when takin em out.

i have tons of 19lb injectors at home... like 15 or so of them, just incase... sometimes the like to break when u take them out...

im just curious, why wont you do a cam? ur mass air, so u can get a decent one for like 175(letter cam, or the tfs stage 1...) and it would sure complement the gt40 ****... i thnk the gt40 crate motors come with choice of b or e cam... and 50resto's mag says what hp numbers the motor puts out

Don't really have the money right now, money is tight, and I really just don't want to take the motor that much more apart.

Just thought about it,do I need the pushrods?

I thought "P" heads were just in 2000-2001 5.0 explorers?

Update: Must have been a 96-97 explorer, the heads are GT40's (3 bars).
Got it torn down in about 1 and half hours, everything looks good.

I read a few people decked the heads by .030 (or 0.3? Everywhere Ilooked it was different)to gain compression, is it worth the money?
Since these aren't the P heads, can I just use my stock GT headers?
