Default Issues..... need some input from you knowledgeable techs

Here we go, got the car a month ago. 93 fox 4 banger converted to 5.0 and 5 lug conversion

1st gear shakes the whole car when taking off (clutch not aligned properly???) i don't know

2nd through 4th are alright

5th gear sound like crap, almost like metal on rotating metal

And, in any gear, the whole car shakes BAD above 70mph, i just got all new tires and had them check the balance twice. Then i got an alignment, doesn't pull anymore but still shakes. It sucks on the highway!!! I don't know if it is trans or rearend related.

Any help is appreciated.

Possible U-joints or improperly balanced drifeshaft. Bad harmonic balancer, worn clutch. It could be many things. But it is obviously something with rotation and balance.

Watch the balancer when it is at idle, if it is not spinning true (any wobbles), replace it.

I would also check the motor and tranny mounts, and make sure they are all tight.

The only thing about the balancer is that it rev's fine when not in gear so idon't think its motor related, i will check the mounts when i get to work though

sounds like you have clutch chatter issues, and an unbalanced driveshaft.

get your car up in the air, or crawl under it.. and inspect your U-joints... one of them probably has a ton of play in it.

Thank you for the straight forward answer Adder, once i get to work its going up in the air to check driveshaft/ujoints, the guy i bought it from said the clutch was decently new and it has a ton of grab to it but whatever, i'll look into clutches just in case i guess

depending what kind of clutch it is, (kevlar) some of them like to chatter a little taking off in 1st.... i dont think this is the issue...esp w. the 5th gear problem. i think your trans needs to be opened up

So the car is in the air. Is it supposed to only have 1 trans mount on the bottom of the trans attached to the cross brace? Because there are 2 other mount looking things on the side that have nothing going to them (stock exhaust hangers??) And what is a good way to check the u-joints because it doesn't look like there is any slop in them at all.
But the rear end worries me. Under the car i can move the driveshaft 1/2 inch back and forth without the rear end grabbing at all (tires don't move). Next step?
