what does it take to remove the lifters...any special tool needed. and how hard is it. there is a loud ticking sound and im preparing for the worst. i cant find any other thing that would cause the sound so im going to take off the head and check it out..

yup, upper/lower intake, valve covers ,unbolt the rockers, the pushrods will come right up out, and then theres a little tray lookin deal holding the lifter keepers down, take it off, and then the lifters can come out... they should slip right out w. a little effort... shouldnt be stuck or anything

i dont think you can take out the lifters with out removing the lower. where do they come out? i think the tool you're talkin about is for cam swaps and what it does is holds the lifters in place so they dont fall through or get stuck on the lobes. but then again maybe they do make a tool and i just have no idea
