Default alternator wiring question.

looking at the diagram from this site for the ford 1g alternator, http://fordfuelinjection.com/public/...ALT_wiring.gif , does the "hot in run" green/red wire running to the regulator need to be hooked up to the regulator for the alternator to charge? and what purpose does this wire serve? Thank you for the help.

I would guess that wire is to indicate when the alternator is inop. That provides the "battery light" on the instrument panel. Without seeing a schematic on the inside of the voltage regulator. Its hard to tell. Hope that helps

I didnt really answer the question. No I would guess it does not need to be hooked up for the alternator to charge.
