Neutral safety switch?

Neutral safety switch?
I have an '89 5.0 and tryin real hard to keep it runnin. I am replacing the transmission with a rebuilt t5 and I broke what appears to be the neutral safety switch. It's on the top of the tranny near the bell housing on the left side. The part that screws in has what appears to be a ball bearing and it does push in and there is a 6 inch pig tail. Is this a neutral safety switch? Thanks for the help.

RE: Neutral safety switch?
Dimebag is right you don't need it to start the car but you do need it to check codes. I couldn't check codes until I tied the two wires together and made the computer think the transmission was in neutral. my cover doesn't have a provision for one either. It was from a 94-95 Mustang GT.
