Default No more second gear.

Hopped off the freeway on my way home today. Hit second gear going around the corner when the tranny felt like it popped out of gear. Unfortunately, there was no more gear there.

I can go through the gate fine. No strange behavior, but second gear feels like neutral. No problems leading up to this.

Any thoughts on this? Should I plan on a rebuild?

95 SVT Cobra. Slightly modified power. Nothing outrageous. Headers and Cam (although I can't say for certain, as I've not torn it apart). I run it hard, but I don't abuse it. No power shifting or anything of that nature. Oh yeah, Steeda shifter.

Help would be appreciated.

You won't know for sure until you open it up but my guess is the engagement teeth broke off which is not part of a rebuild kit.

True, but if it comes apart, it'll be getting a rebuild, and I suspect it'll be coming apart.

So, a kit will be likely purchased.

Any more thoughts?

i think whoever said "get a rebuild kit" is retarded... a rebuild kit isnt gonna do dick for you... theres a very good chance that teh gear is ****ed, and if its ****ed the countershaft gear is ****ed... i did the same thing, grabbed 2nd and BOOM. no more 2nd for me...

gears dont come in rebuild kits

i say go to DDperf, buy the 999 rebuilt trans, or find a stock one... throw it in and keep this one for misc parts

You could rebuild it with a nice used gear if money is an issue if not D&D is the best

no, it wouldnt just be the syncro blocker ring... ive had those straight up dissapear, and i could still get into gear... it could be the teeth on the side of the gear, the dog teeth, but i highly doubt it, their prty strong... its prolly the main gear, and countershaft gear... if one goes both go... hed need, a rebuild kit(220) 2nd gear(idk... 60-70 bucks?) and a countershaft($$$$$)... it'd be worth getting another trans instead

Well, Looks like I'll open it up and take a look. Probably look to Hanlon to see what the recommend once I can locate the damage.

I'd have expected more nasty noise if the gear failed, but apparently, it's typcally as described in my case. Thanks for the ideas. I'll post pics of what comes out of the case.

This'll be fun, I'm sure.

Jimbus.
