Default old 5.0 vs MAF

Hey, I may be aquiring an 86 GT 5 speed vert in a trade. I was just wondering, Is it really worth it to switch to a slightly newer MAF computer/system like everyone is telling me? What if i dont plan to mod much, and what if i do(i wouldnt do much to a vert except maybe full exhaust)? I was always under the assumption that MAF systems were more restrictive than MAP or other systems? Any input greatly appreciated
