BUILDING A TURBO MOTOR HELP!!
I am Building a new drag car from a 86 gt.
I need some advice because I am new to turbochargers.
Is a 351 Windsor block a good foundation or would I be better off with a 302 as a foundation for some reason?
Also I plan to run no more than 18 p.s.i. of boost so with a forged crank and rods and pistons should I be carefull of what compression I build the motor too? and please explain why if so.

RE: BUILDING A TURBO MOTOR HELP!!
yes compression is a major factor. if your planning on 18 + lbs of boost i would stay 8:1 or less. i would defiantly use a 351 block they can hold about 100 hp or so more than a 302 and you already have the ci to play with which will in turn equal more power. you must defantly use forged pistons if you want it to hold togeather. hope this helps

RE: BUILDING A TURBO MOTOR HELP!!
Yea, everything will be forged, we run a 65 fairlane with 763 rwhp now at 10.5 at 3400 lbs but it has a 515 NA/c.i. svo motor that is very built.
I wanna build this stang with a small block and I was pretty sure I was going with the 351 anyways probably stroked out. thanks much for the compression tip.

good luck keep us posted sounds like its gonna be fast. i went to a track bout 2 hours away this past sunday and there was a black fox notch that looked bone stock on the exterior save for a drag wing and slicks, he pulls up to the line does his burn out and pulls an 8.14 at 176 mph it had a turbo 419 stroker bad *** machine. gives new meaning to sleeper and it was still street legal with full interior back seat included

Yea, I am pretty sure itll be fast, I will post pics of both cars soon, Right now the stang is all tore down to bare sheet metal, building a square tube frame under it as well as a 12 point cage, and the 4-link is comming. This car will still be street legal yet but stipped down bare besides windshield and lights, even cut out door panels and used allum sheeting over them.sheet metal dash.
Ill post some pics of the fairlane and the stang in progress for everyone.
1000 horse would be rediculous huh?
