question about my slicks and stall speed
As some of you knowm I bought my first set of slicks the other day.
A friend of mine says now that I will have traction, that my car will bog off the line and that my 2500 stall converter won't be enough.
I had plenty of grunt off the line last year with only a 7.5 rear and 2:73 gears and street tires. Actually, I had major traction problems.
Now, I'll have the 4:10, 8.8 rear with trac-loc and the slicks.
Do you think I will still bog off the line?
BTW, last year with those crappy gears and street tires I ran a best of 13.57@104mph. I should be solidly in the 12's now.
Any predictions?

RE: question about my slicks and stall speed
i dont think you have to worry too much, there could be a littttle big but dont think anything too serious.. i could be wrong tho, anyways if there is, time for a new 4800 stall

RE: question about my slicks and stall speed
um the guy that had my car told me to start the revs at 4k with the slicks cause it might bog, and work my way up the rpm band till i got a good launching point, so 2500 does seem a little low. but then again i have a tremec 5 speed. there is only one way to find out, but obviously you are going to want to trade it to a higher stall anyways right? maybe you should start at 3500 and work your way up.

RE: question about my slicks and stall speed
I would try what you already have first before spending money to change something that might well not need changing.
just leave off the engine idle and punch the gas pedal and see how the tires react first. you will have to play around some with the air pressure in the slicks to find out what works best anyway, so you want to try to leave the same way all the time while you play with the pressure in the slicks. I would say start at 13 psi and see how this does. if the rear end feels like it's moving around at the top end, then raise the pressure up 1 psi and try another run.

RE: question about my slicks and stall speed
Well...my track will have it's first test & tune session on the 20th of this month. I just wanted to get a little insight on what to expect since I never ran slicks before.
I'm thinking I'll be alright and not bog because this 274XE cam has tons of low end torque and plus the fact I'm running a duel plane manifold with a relatively small carb. which helps low end even more. I'll let you guys know after the 20th....weather permitting that is.

RE: question about my slicks and stall speed
why wait til the track opens..do some hole shots on the street..if it bogs with it being on asfalt work with tire pressure...would I go to a 3800 stall on a daily driver?..nope!
