Default T-5 shifter/tranny

Im 17 with an 86 mustang 5.0 GT its all pretty much stock for now and it has 160,000 miles on it. I baby it and take good care of it but dont know where to start. Should i get a new engine even though its still strong or get a new tranny cause i plan to put some hp on it?? i dunno help me out

Well, I'm of the opinion, if it ain't broke don't fix it. If all is holding up, replace it only as it goes bad.

well my dad trys n keep saying itll blow up anytime just cause its an old car is that true?

Correct me if I am wrong guys, but the 5.0 engine is a very strong and durable engine and i've seen 5.0's with 250,000 miles on them that still run fine and the owners have no problem with them. </P>

Ya i've gone 250,000 on a 302 motor but if the car was beat on before I dont think the motor would last toomuch longer. Alot of people buy the 5.0 to beat on. Id say 80 % have been beat on pretty bad.

The 302 Short blocks and long blocks will go on forever, mine is going to, just keep putting mobile 1 in the crankcase and mobile 1 in the gas tank, youll last forever too. (remember, no FGS)

Just remember that motor wont allow you to do a cam swap or a head swap, due to the totally flat top pistons.
