There should be a small gasket.

There is no gasket just an o-ring. Take out the distributor and there will be 1 there.

ok i was looking online at advance auto parts and found an 'oil felt plug' and also a part called distributor seal that linked to the same part called 'oil felt plug'. what the heck is the oil felt plug? if it's an o-ring i can just go find one the same size, they're easy to get. but if it's this oil felt plug i'll go ahead and order that.

what does the oil felt plug look like? if its the same as the black O-ring then go ahead and order it, you can compare the two at the store correct?

It's just an O-ring, you should be able to remove it, take it into parts place and have them compare to get you a new one.

FYI, before you remove distributor, be sure to mark the position of the rotor inside the distributor with a sharpie marker. this will help you when reinstalling from not having to find TDC on compression stroke and restab distributor.

You might want to make sure it isnt the front intake seal leaking too.

i cleaned it up real well then ran it and watched to see where the oil was coming from. it's a slow leak; took around a week before the oil started to run out from the bottom of distributor. i don't know what that felt plug is, but it is not an o-ring. i'll take it (the o-ring) out and just go to auto parts store and buy a new one by comparing it to the old one.

chevy lover... FAIL

the distributor has an O-ring. Mine was so dried up that it felt like plastic. I broke it off and popped a new one on.
