I have never aligneda bellhousing but I just heard that it should be done. Why would I need to check alignment if im just replacing my clutch.I was also told I need to check the runout as well.If the bolts and dowels are lined up and torqued properly why would alighnment and runout need to be checked?THANKS

There is a whole write up about that in the ford racing catalog and about using a dial indicator to check it...but honestly unless you had a wierd issue with clutch bellhousing issues and or a problem installing the tranny due to a misaligned bellhousing or warped part of some sort... then it's really not neccessary when replacing a clutch...if your clutch is just worn out replace it and bolt everything back together and you'll be fine.....there really is no way to align the stock bellhousing without performing mods to it

the way i was taught that if the dowl pins line up and you have the right bellhousing bolts (because my friend thought he had the right bolts turned out to be to long made a gap between engine and bellhousing ruined his clutch with oil and dirt ect..)

If the bellhousing is out, aligning it is pretty easy. You replace the dowels with offset dowels.

I've checkeda few engines before. Fords, GM, Mopars. I've never seen out far enough to require correction.

This is one of those things best off left to people who worry themselves to death about everything.
