Default long tubes

these looks like a really good deal (theres a link) but im debating how difficult it'll be to install longtubes and if i buy these then i need an h-pipe too. Will i be able to do it with a jack and axle stands or do i need a lift? anyway check out the deal $170 for brand new MAC longtubes.

Hey foxbody I just put a set of Mac long tubes and o/r h pipe on my 86. It is a B!TCH. You have to undo the engine mounts, jack the motor about 4 inches up and if i remember right the drivers side has to go from the bottom. you also have to drop the steering and undo the steering linkage to beable to get the driveside header in then slide the linkage throught the header. I had to do it on the lift and would not recomend doing it with a jack because it was still a pain in the A$$ to do using the lift. But the headers make a big difference you can notice it pulls alot harder throught the gears but you do loose the real punchy torque from the bottom. Imagine having the real torquey bottomthat you have with the shorties now say from 500-2000 spread through out the whole rpm range. but you will gain a whole lot more power with these. then get some 3.73s and you will have the whole torquey part back and alot more power to the ground. Its well worth it but remember you will be cusing and probley throwng tools across the shop. so tell your buds to all wear hard hats!!!

you also have to extend the O2 sensor wires on to mount on the shorter Hpipe

It is a job if you haven't done it before but if you can get someone to help you that has done it it is well worth it, just get a 12 pack and take your time because it is a pain but well worth it. i would get it and and save for a while and get the h pipe then you will have them ready when ever you get aroung to it, because thats a good deal for some Macs, and a h pipe is only a 1 something without the cats so itsnot that bad.

its amazing what kind of crap will come out of the mouth of those who do not know.

Mac headers are crap because of their flange design. Also. the metal they use is garbage, mac headers rust up as soon as you install them.
Flowtech headers are made by Holley, and are not as bad as you think. I have a set, my boss runs a set.. and MJR46 has them on his car as well.. so before you speak from your lack of experience. ask those of us who have them.

But i have aset the done me well .But the mac's i had to clean up the welds around the inside the flanges, and the bolt fitment is horrible.
