Replacing the front differential seal HELP

RE: Replacing the front differential seal HELP
no i did not take the diff out,
i thought one of the drums were warped causing the noise and i wanted to replace the seal because it was leaking actaully both seals were leaking.
anyway, i just bought the car about a month ago and now this noise started happening. I took off the rear cover and maybe a quart of fluid came out.
there wasnt a whole lot of silver but i think it may be a bearing that is the culprit.
the noise that happens, it happens at a certain point of a revolution of something because the faster i go the faster the noise.

From what you explain, it could be one or some of the bearings in the diff... or it could even be the axle bearings. The best way to deduce it down is to take the axles out and look at the bearing surfaces at the ends of the axles. if they look worn, relace the axles and bearings. If that takes the noise away...you're done. If not, then it sounds like a rear end rebuild is in your future. None of what I'm saying is cheap to do, but bad parts have to be replaced.

I usually get mine from jegs(the one w/shims)...I've run solid pinion spacers in 9 inch 12 bolts and 8.8's...

RE: Replacing the front differential seal HELP
how do you know that is where the noise is coming from.??? before throwing parts at it if you can put the car on a lift and run it..if you have no lift use jack stands and get under the car with a auto stephascope and have someone run the car while you get under it and try and pinpoint the rotational noise....because if you throw parts at it in the area where your working it may start to become very costly too you...may be cheaper to have a professional tech diagnosis your problem

RE: Replacing the front differential seal HELP
no to remove the axles you remove the rear end cover..remove the 5/16 bolt that holds the retaining pin in then remove tires and brake drums and push in on the axles..they will move slightly and reach in with a small magnet and pull the c-clips out then wha-la out come the axles....try the jack stand thin g first before going any further
