Rear end Question
Hello, new member with a interesting question.
I recently aquired a rearend date coded 2/86 that came out of an LX.
It is a Dana44 with a Powertraxx Posi with 4:56 gears. It is marked Experimental on the right side axle tube.
The guy I got it from said it was an experimental piece built by Ford SVO to check the cost effectiveness of a stronger rear end. Obviously 8.8 won that battle, but I wonder of there is any truth to the story.
I do not have a camera here, but it is here in my shop.

RE: Rear end Question
It is certainly not a ghetto build. The center is a beautifully cast piece. I have never seen a eared for upper control arms center on a 44.All the ears for the quad shocks as well as the lower control arms are definately CNC welded. I might actually have to go buy a Mustang just to see if I can brake it.
