Default IGNITION COIL

I just testedmy crane fire ball coil to my old stock coiland it actually had a weaker arc and started cutting out at 25k volts, the stock ford coil had 27k volts and a strong arc across the points. SO dont waste your money on1 of these. i will be testing 3 other coils by next wed or thursday depending on when they come in. BullSh!T huh, lets sue them for false advertising any one want in???[:@]

how are you testing these? maybe there is something wrong with that coil - i would certainly send it back to crane if your ford coil produced higher readings.

i know from personal experience that my MSD Blaster II coil will throw an arc out further than a stock coil (i still remember the pain of getting zapped LOL)

I had a MSD coil on my stock 88 gt. The coil made this annoying buzzing sound. I called MSD, they said that was normal. Then I found out that a MSD coil was pointless on a nearly stock Mustang. I had this thing on for 5 months, how pointless all it did was buzz over every other sound.

i just went to drive my car the other day and it ran fine at idle but bogged when i tried getting on it. i heard a tap in the d/s i thought i had a bad lifter or something. i got soo pissed off, i finally thought maybe a wire is off or something. i tried pushing the wires down on the dist. and got a nice zap. i looked down and saw the coil was arcin like crazy on the metal ring around it and the few wires that were close by. man what a night. i dont know if i should just get a stocker or get another msd. the one that i had was over 2-3 yrs old.

My77 we have a tester for coils at our shop. you give it juice and then hook up a volt meter and an arc strength tester, dont know exactly the name for it but it works.) You give the coil juice and then turn a *** that sends more power to through the coil and lets you read the voltage it gives out the more you turn the *** the further the 2 points seperate showing how strong of an arc it is producing. the crane fireball cut out at about 25k volts and was buzzing like camaroeater said and the oem coil cut out at about 27k with the same arc strength and no annoying buzz. BUT this is 27k volts we are talking about, so i seriously doubt that our cars would produce that kind our voltage but it was a nice test to know. and very dissapointing. but like i said wait till mid next weak and i should have more results in about 3 other ones. depending on when they drop them off.

I've heard in the past that a stock coil from a 92 put out more juice than most aftermarket coils. Never tested it myself but I know I read it somewhere. FWIW..
