Default valve spring keepers won't budge

i'm trying to change out a valve seal, but the stupid keeper won't loosen. i've put a socket over it and whacked it with a hammer to loosen it, but i'm getting nowhere. i have the valve spring compressor from autozone that looks like a 2 jaw puller. this sucks. any advice???

hit it harder. make sure your hitting the ring around the valve locks or the keeper itlef on the exhaust side.

you'll feel the spring recoil if you hit it hard enough to make it compress. dont be a girly man!

Yeah, sometimes you really gotta give them a good beating to get them off.
