What's my cam?

RE: What's my cam?
182, 83 and 84 gt cars came with hyd flat
0.416"/0.444"
260°/274°
Part # D3OE-6250-AA that came from the marine parts bin.
Sadly, you dont have the heads that came from the truck parts bin
(1987 E7TE heads best stock on Fox mustangs)
the good news is that you are up to 175 hp @ 4200 rpm
from the previous years effort of 157 hp @ 4200 rpm
I would seriously consider getting a 1987-1992 complete engine, maybe a quickie rebuild if it needs it... you know bearings maybe rings quick hone job.
It would be good for future mods

RE: What's my cam?
go fast recipe on the cheap..............
1. start with a wieand action plus (the #8124) or a edelbrock performer rpm intake.
2. add a holley 570cfm street avenger or a holley model 4160 600cfm.
3. ****** a 218/228 @.050 - .471/.471 cam and lifter kit from summit (dont forget a new double roller cloyes chain for 40 bucks while your in there)
4. sprinkle with longtube headers, full dual exhaust with decent mufflers (flowmaster, magnaflow, etc, etc.)
bake @ 375 deg. for 30-40 minutes and serve immediately. feeds 8 ricers, or 4 camaros

RE: What's my cam?
I love how it seemed like building an engine is now a recipe! lol.. Hamutoff.. in order to get 87-92 complete engine wouldnt i need to get the computer, do the stuff for the fuel injection, and a whole bunch of other stuff? I got some shorty headers on their now with some ****ty 2 1/4 inch piping goin to the mufflers and out the ***.. nothin special.. i want to get some long tubes, x pipe, and the take the flowmasters off what i have now to complete it and make it dumps.

RE: What's my cam?
building a balanced combination for your motor IS a recipe. add the wrong part/ingredient and it sucks.
you could use all your carb stuff on the later model motor, the benefits to switching would be forged pistons (which will handle boost or nos if you wanted it later), you'd have a roller cam, and you'd have smaller chambered heads for higher compression. the downside is you don't know the condition of a motor fromt he junk yard, it could be a worn out piece of crap.
IMO if you were going to do that, you'd be better to ****** one from an exploder so you can get the GT40/GT40P heads

RE: What's my cam?
Absolutly not! Get the longblock if you can, if Id were you id take one main cap off the crank one off a rod and look at the bearing. The other good thing about getting along block is that you can check compression. Even so, IMO you'd be better off just getting a quickie refresh: gaskets, stock bearings, cleaning. Or not! Ive taken two "unknown" 1986 engines (well I knew they ran but thats it) and swapped them into fox cars and used a carb.... you need to make sure your distributor has a steel gear, becasue the roller cam is steel.... same/same or you can get a ?brass? gear but these wear...what you dont want is cast iron gear like found on the fox v8 cars that came stock with a carb. you already hav the other part of the equation figured out: the exhaust, yes your stock exhaust sucked!
and you already have the right distributor to use and its control box all you need is the long block and steel dist. gear and GO!
you can get nice heads later after everything is sorted out and your bored with your newfound power
