Default T5 input shaft play

What is usually the problem when the input shaft wiggles alot and isnt stiff? The tranny is out of the car and when i grab the input shaft i can wiggle it a good bit. I put the shifter on the tranny last night and it shifts smooth through all of the gears. My freind is gonna rebuild it for me but i was just wondering what causes the input shaft to do that.

preload on the input shaft bearing is incorrect

the race needs to be shimmed

so its not a broken part its just an incorrect measurement or normal wear and tear

pretty much.

A new set of bearings should take care of it

when you remove the retainer there will be a race in the backside and it usually will fall out..under it is a shim...also check the output shaft tip for wear that the back of the input shaft slides into where all the needle bearings are that fall out when you pull it out
