My friend is going to give me a 6a ignition box that he had bought for his carburated 65 mustang ( had a 351 winsor engine on it), are they different than the ones fuel injected cars use? can i use that ? and whats the difference between msd 6a and msd 5al ???
Edit: It looks like you'll want to get the harness PN 8874. Scroll down and click the one that says "FORD IGNITIONS Wiring a Ford TFI with Harness, PN 8874."
the 6a ignition sparks as many times as it can on ever compression stroke (up to 6 times! ) to completely burn the air/fuel charge. And above 3500 RPM, it generates on big spark, the result is better throttle response, more power, better gas milegae, and MUCH nicer idle, and keep the top of the pistons cleaner. the 6al does everything that the 6a does BUT it does have a BUILT IN rev limiter. on the back of the box theres a spot where the little chip (pill) plugs in. you can buy em from summit, they range from 1k RPM to like 8k RPM. if bought new the 6al will run about $50 more than the 6a due to the built in rev limiter. that is the ONLY difference. Oh, and the chips ("pills" ) are boughten in packs, i think there like $25 for 5 different rpm chips.
