ORIGINAL: oldford
well ive done some timing And carb tuning and it is still a little ruff at idle and can step on it And lay a 50 foot mark on the pavement it has great power above 1000 rpms but im still suspicious of the cam .......... i forgot to add the motor was originally in a manual trans car ..... and i think you need to choose a cam for manual or auto trans for perfection .........if any one reads this and knows it the manual cam might make a difference at idle please let me know

they are exactly the same cam. year for year the cam was the same for autos and sticks. Ford did slightly *VERY* slightly change up the cams from 87-93 at intervals but always same for auto and stick.
The 5.0 ho billet roller cam we are refering to is a great piece... IMO it helped much to make the 5.0 Fox a "modern muscle car" in fact it is a vastly superior (good power and drivability together) cam compared to many of the supposed "muscle cars" of the 60's

.. Well here is the final results….. the problem was that I put on a new DEMON 525 cfm carb and assumed it was ready to go….. the problem was the hi-speed idle screw on the passenger side of the carb(hid behind the choke housing ) was set too hi even when kicked out ……which would not let me get my main idle screw to set right……which made me retard my distributor to get it to idle down……… which made my vacuum low and fluctuating…..which made it run ruff at low rpm …..note the reason I was retarding the timing in the first place was because I was not positive of my timing mark…….when I put the timing cover on for using my manual fuel pump.( From the 289 engine).the timing marks did not match up to were the 5.0 harmonic balancer numbers were so I had to scribe my own and I was doughting my marks…ANYWAY ALL IS GOOD NOW 18 GH OF VAC AND IT IDLES SMOOTH AND HAS TWICE THE POWER AS THE WORE OUT 289—AND THANKS FOR ALL YOUR SUGESTIONS
