my 1988 lx died on me today, i took the battery out and used it to move another car then when i put it back in my mustang wouldnt start, it has fuel pressure, spark at cap and all the plugs, truns over fine, i do not know what is wrong with it, when they key i can hear all the relays clicking if that means anything... im thinking some sort of fuseable link or my computer is messed... i dunno maybe she is jsut jealous of my camaro?

I don't know about your problem, but I'm still wondering why any mustang will be jealous of that camaro, looks like a heap of junk to me.
just kidding man. [sm=smiley17.gif]

RE: being a ford....wont start
still wont start...
fuel pressure is right on at 42 psi
replace igniton control module no change
timing checked
good spark everywhere
turns over at normal speed
the motor will run for a short time and then die i am at a complete loss what else is there to check, i think that it must be in the fuel delivery system

TFI Module,
Thick Film integrated( well I know it is thick film....) Module, A grey, narrow plastic thing, with a plug connection on one end. And screwed in to the distributor
It is a intergrated circuit board that is insulted by silicon, but gets very hot because of it's location on the distributor. Controls spark.
Mined fried once on the '86 Capri 5.0, everything works normal but it will not start!!! I mean it will not start......
With 175K on the Capri I have replaced it once.
Later,

RE: being a ford....wont start
if the ign. mod. is fried there will be no spark you have spark and the motor will start for a short time now you have to "keep it simple stupid" as they say start at the basics, you have spark? Where did you check for spark? YOu have compression? Correct? you have fual pressure? You have correct timeing? correct? NOW the motor didn't start befor right? now it starts for a little bit then dies. WHAT ARE YOU LOOSEING, ign, fual, maybe the thing is just flooded have you checked the plugs, dist. cap?

Make sure you don't have a big vacuum leak. If it starts but dies right away try giving it a bit of gas apon startup to see if it keeps running. If it runs when you give it gas that would indicate that you have a big vacuum leak, like a brake booster vacuum line or PCV hose.
Also verify that your IAC is operating properly. Take it off and watch it when you turn the key on, it should move.

Have you checked your gas for water? You might be able to sample from the pressure test port on the fuel rail. Put it into a clear glass container and look for seperation. Your symptoms sound a lot like water in the fuel. (This is assuming you've tried running it with the throttle slightly open making sure it's not the IAC and that you've checked for vacuum leaks as mentioned in previous posts on this thread).
