Default Engine Swap

I just bought a 94 mustang gt w/ 130,000 miles on it. I brought it to my mechanic and got some bad news. I need new motor mounts, rocker arms, and lifters. So the good news is that i'm going to be buying a 96 explorer 5.0 which is a cobra motor. I'm buying the engine tomorrow and installing it this weekend. Has anyone attempted this if so is there anything else that i will need to replace or comments.

make sure you get the complete computer wiring harness and the computer from the explorer or the new engine won't run right on the older system you have now. you definitely need the explorer ECU, I know this for a fact but you might be able to use the harness, not sure.

Why wouldn't the long block just work with a tune roundy? I put an 89 Marquis long block in my 93 Bronco without any problems, shouldn't he beable to do the same?

I guess he could but I thought the ECU is different in different model years and makes depending on the model year.
and he would want to get the full advantage of the cobra engine wouldn't he??? I know I would!

You don't need the ECU, you can swap over the sensors off the old setup and run the original ECU thats in the car. The other thing is the Explorer has a crank trigger with a dummy distributor that you will have to take off and put your Mustang distributor in. The Explorer cam sucks from what I have read and been told, its made for economy and not performance. The throttle body has to be modified to work as well, and if its got GT40P heads you will probably be looking at new headers as they need specific headers for spark plug clearance.
