Default how much stronger is a mexican block?

As opposed to your standard fox body years block?

is it worth the swap, or is it negligible? Can it handle more than 600hp with a girdle?

I would think 500 would be pushing the limit to be honest but this is all hearsay to me. I have heard of that cracking at 500 and than at close to 600 so its a gamble imo.

I personally don't have any experience with these, put I actually just read this in a five liter book while looking at something for my car.

It stated that the "mexican block" was made up until 1998, most were truck assemblies. They are 6-8 lbs heavier than U.S. manufactured blocks, and it said basically this is where the rumor started about them being stronger b/c Ford was retooling at their Cleveland plant, to produce "thin walled block castings." Where the mexican blocks where not retooled.

Stated they can be identified by a "hecho in mexico" cast in the lifter valley, and by casting numbers that start with designations such as C8AM-B and D1ZM-AA.

I know that the rumors got started during the original muscle car days about them being stronger, but this book argues against it. Regardless, it is a good conversation piece. Good Luck!

there suppose to be stronger. they have thicker main webbings and thicker main caps similar to the 289hipo. it would be worth the swap imo

Because of they are thicker in the cylinder wall they could handle being bored.40 over. They were the cheap route to getting a better block; back in the day your only other alternative was an A4 block. Also, they are rumored to have more iron than a US block. As with any production block, you canmake 500+HP with it, but will it be reliable?

they are also supposed to have a higher nickel content, which makes them stronger than regular american cast iron blocks anyways. another identifier is two round **** thingys cast into the front of the block that american blocks dont have.
