86 fox worth 1000 dollars??

86 fox worth 1000 dollars??
i found a 86 lx 5.0. the engine was rebuilt using b303 cam, forged pistons, heart chambered heads, 5 speed tranny, 87 interior, problem is about a week after the motor was installed the motor started spuddering and died and the guy had not been able to get it to start. it has been converted to mass air and ran for about a week. need help , going to look at it tomorrow. trying to see if its worth buying, hes asking 1000 for it

i just bought an 87 for 1500 and that was a steel for the car. It was owned by some lady who drove it till she couldnt afford to put any more money into it. I found this by being patient. The add said " 1987 ford mustang needs work wont pass smog 1800 obo" I almost threw the paper away when i saw it. I thought it was going to be a junker but it was completely stock nothing had been altered or changed. the body was super strait with only one door ding. and it has a sun roof.... exactly what i wanted, because i waited.
My point is ive looked at about 15 of them before that, all in the price range of about 3000 to 4000 and this car i bought for 1500 is in 10 times better condition. When ever somebody talked it up like "it's so fast", or "too many extras to list" and the price was kind of low, the cars ended up being pieces of crap. they were driven so hard the engines were going to be needing replaced soon.
be very carfull because if he knows enough about cars to do all that stuff to the engine, he should know that with a built engine the car is worth more than 1000. He probly ran the engine dry with no oil and it siezed up.
Then again it could just be a gem like mine was...

if you can turn the car over (crank the motor) do a compression check if the compression is good, id buy it. if you can get it to fire even for a second by pouring some gass down the intake it would let you hear that there is no barring issues. if its a fuel problem you can always throw an carb on there and see if she'll run
