i found a different set of gt40p heads pulled off an explorer with around 100k miles. The guy said that they should have a valve job done with new seals and springs etc. How much would springs costs and where can i get them at. I really dont know alot about heads so thanks for the help guys.

I do realize i will need new spark plugs and headers, i changed the topic of this thread, thanks.

Also, is 175 for gt40p heads a good deal even if they need to be cleaned up.

The springs need to be upgraded...... go to Thumper of Orange Park and ask (e-mail him) for his direct springs upgrade kit for the p's, it will work for the OTS cam you might eventually throw in there..... and yep....$175 is a good deal.

i emailed mike over at thumper and asked him if he thought i should go with the gt40s or the gt40p's and what he would charge for a good port and spring upgrade etc. Also had him recommend me a cam. Im awaiting to hear back from him. Happy thanksgiving to everyone =D

look heres wut i think...

springs-need to match your cam... if ur running a stock cam, then get a spring that will work for that.... am i saying get stock springs? no... get something equivalent though....

stock springs
valve closed-74-85 lbs seat press.
valve open-200-230 lbs seat press.

get something a little stronger then that, but dont over do it... springs are not a "bigger is better" deal... you want something that matches

fwiw... my comp dual springs w. dampner(suggested for my cam(xe270)) were like 80 bucks...but remember you need retainers and locks too...not too too much money there... hell you know, my cam/lifters/springs/retainers/locks=600 bucks...it wont cost you that much to get what u need.

as for the valve job. gotta take that to a machine shop, get the valves possibly cut, and then lapped in... when bring it for that, you can either a. have and bring your springs n ****, and just have them install them. b. ask them to order w/e springs they think u should get. or c. deal w. the springs afterwards

like i told you before, since your not doing the work yourself, i suggest letting the parts pile up, then getting it all installed at once... that will save you money in labor, and will save money in **** like springs...

if ur really tight, i have about 32 stock springs sitting around here i could send ya... but personally id just upgrade...

as for the gt40 vs. gt40p...id say thats opinion...

thanks buddy i appreciate the info. I think i just found a gt40 upper and lower, painted and in great condition along with decent gt40 heads for 400bucks, although im seeing if he will do 375. I am gonna let all the parts pile up and then take them to get put on, ive found a few people who will do it really cheap. Thanks for the info guys.

ORIGINAL: AdderMk2

ORIGINAL: 92cobra
and can i use this 65mm throttle body
you cannot use the explorer throttle body.

and you should run a set of Autolite 764's
the 104's are a colder heat rage plug and should be used in a boosted or nitrous application
Damn that means I was driving mine around with a part I can't use!?

That is an explorer TB not a direct bolt on but you can change the link arm if your careful.
