Tranny question
My syncros in my 88 GT 5sp are pretty much toast. What will it cost to get them fixed? I have a chance to buy a 5 sp tranny out of an 89 GT with only 30k miles on it for $500. What is the best way to go?

RE: Tranny question
How can anyone answer that? You are basically asking if someone can garantee a used Mustang transmission that you found.
If I had $500 to spend, the safer route would be have your rebuilt. Especially if you know it's a good transmission except for worn synchros.
Now if I had a truely low mileage, never been beat on, mint condition T5. Would I let it go for cheaper than $500, probably not.

RE: Tranny question
Can you do the work yourself on your T5? $500 will go a long ways on fixing the one you have now. Rebuild kits are $200, depending on how long you have been driving it with bad syncronizers you may need a slider or two. Now you are up close to $500. But when it's done you will have a known good transmission.

RE: Tranny question
Astro Performance, I know dimebag is gonna cus me for this, and D&D Performance has them also. I would spend a little more and get one from these guys than buy one you don't know anything about.

RE: Tranny question
92greygt is correct. its actually really simple to tear it apart and put it back together. i did my own and thought it was gonna be complicated but it wasnt. i know itll cost more than 500 to get it rebuilt by a trans shop tho. thats why i attempted it myself. ive seen some trans from astro performance with better gear sets go for a good price.
