Default Head Qs? Not the normal Qs.

OK, I'm getting close to being 100% ready for doing my H/I work, but I'm getting a little leary on my heads. Right now I have a old set of cast iron GT-40 heads. The heads sprins and valves seem in good shape, but the rockers are shot. As a result I'm going to get 1.7 roller rockers to go with the heads, same rockers used on the 93 Cobra. Now here's my first question.

Even though the heads "look" good, would it still be a good idea to have them rebuilt (new valves, stems, seals, etc.)? If so, does anybody have a parts breakdown of where I can find the parts for hte heads.
I'd also like to upgrade the valves. The valves I've been looking at are 1.90 intake, and 1.54 exhaust. The exhaust is the same as stock, but the 1.90 is more aggressive than stock, so can these be made to work through porting/polishing?
Roughly how much would a shop charge to rebuild the heads?
Roughly how much would a shop charge port and polish them?
Anybody know what head gaskets GT-40 iron heads use (ford part number)? Also, what intake to head gasket?

OK with all that said, does anybody think it would be better for me to just get an assembled set of GT-40X aluminum heads that cost $650 each and just install them with the 1.7 rockers?

I know there are 100X better heads on the market, but I've made up my mind on the GT-40s and that's not going to be changed, I just need some help at this point.

well your head choice as you know[&:]but since you've made up your mind...the 1.90 valve vs the 1.84 that are already in the gt-40 would be a waste of money and by the time you got done doing all the mods and valve job needed and clean up on your heads/ gt-40's...you'd be more than half way to the cost of a decent set of aluminum heads...my vote would be for you to buy the aluminum heads

That's what I was thinking, I just found a deal on a set of rebuilt SVO aluminum heads with links to all the gaskets I need, so I think I'm going to sell my GT-40s and get those GT-40 X303s I've seen.

Like I said, I know there are way better heads, but I've made the GT-40 series my choice for several personal reasons.

I'm not sure why you're insistant upon the GT40X heads when you can get better heads for the same amount of money. The GT40X heads aren't crap though, there's just better out there is all. Regardless, if you have the money you'd be better off in the long run to get good aluminum heads rather than rebuild the stock GT40's. If you don't have enough for better heads then you could rebuild the iron GT40s and be ok, but if you have the money you might as well pay more to get more.
