Default What to clean the heads with?

I have my heads off and was wondering what I should use to get the carbon build up off them and get them ready for paint? I want to make sure it doesn't hurt my expensive heads. By the way their cast iron.

I always use carb cleaner or brake cleaner.I have never had any problems with using those products.

Hell, you could dip 'em in acid, and it would just ruin the rubber valve seals...?

Use some gunk engine cleaner, or take 'em down to the local pressure wash and water 'em good.

Brakleen works as well as carb cleaner.

You won't hurt the heads.[sm=smiley20.gif]

i've found that oven cleaner works alot better than anything out there, and its not $5 a can. just dont use it on aluminum.

e-z off oven cleaner is the best

I would use a soft wire brush bit in a drill or right angle grinder gets the cast ready for paint

Oven cleaner is fine for aluminum as well, it just leaves the pore open much like bead blasting does. We used it all the time in the tranny shop to clean the cases.
