Default Tune up question.

Decide its time to give my snake a tune up and was wondering what i should do next. I just changed the oil and filter (mobil 1, the REALLY expensive kind) and was wondering wats next? Looking into spark plugs next and was wondering which plugs are the best and what else i need to do (or have someone else do) to tune up the car more. thanks

Default RE: Tune up question.

your gonna need to :

1. change the plugs and gap the new ones correctly
2. change the cap and rotor
3. change the air filter
4. change the radiator hoses

i would also ...

6. change the idle air control valve
7. change the throttle positioning sensor
8. check all the vacuum lines for breaks ( even if you dont see one its bound to be there if it is those hard plastic lines)
9. change the EGR valve.

and that should be good

peace out

Ok, so how do i gap them correctly? And what spark plugs will i need, like a model # so to speak. Would gapping be best done if i removed the spark plugs one by one using the old plugs in front of the one im installing as a guide ?

Air filter was changed a little under a month ago with the Cold air intake install.
Whats a cap and rotor?

you can pickup a plug gapper at any parts store, as for plugs they will give you a list of ones that will work you just need to buy one that fits your budget, they'll tell you what to gap the plugs at

Get Autolite 25's that is one of the best plugs for our cars, Do NOT get the platinum plugs, just get the base model plug, believe me on this one. No need for air filter if you have a new cold air, just maybe a clean? Gap the plugs to recommended specs, a chilton or Haynes or Factory Ford repair books will give you that info as I dont remember it off the top of my head, something like 40-45? Someone correct me.

The cap and rotor is the cap on your distributor (where the plugs are pluged into) and the rotor is the thing that 'rotates' inside the cap.. Both of these should be replaced with new MSD or Factory ford parts.. Hope this helps.
